Garnet Fall To Bullets At Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer slipped on the road Saturday afternoon at Gettysburg College in a Centennial Conference tilt. The Garnet and Bullets played a scoreless first half, but the hosts scored in the 51st minute to take the lead. The Bullets tacked on another tally with seven seconds left for the final nail in the coffin.

With the 2-0 loss, Swarthmore drops to .500 overall (6-6) and 2-3 in Centennial play. Gettysburg improved to 6-3-1 (3-2 Centennial).

The Garnet took 16 shots and earned a season-high 11 corner kicks but couldn't convert the chances into goals. The Garnet had a shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but Cameron Ricciardi's shot was saved by Gettysburg's Thomas Keane. 

Swarthmore goalkeeper Michael Thut came up with four saves in the final 15 minutes of the first half and finished with nine saves overall. Thut now has 50 saves on the season.

Following Gettysburg's breakaway goal in the 51st minute, Yuheng Wang added a header shot on goal in the 59th minute for the Garnet and Michael Nafziger fired a shot on goal in the the 70th minute.

Swarthmore had one last chance in the 90th minute, but Omri Gal's shot went high. 

The Garnet are back at home on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. game against Drew University.
