SWARTHMORE, Pa.–Goals came early and often for the Swarthmore College field hockey team in an 8-0 win over the visiting Bryn Mawr Owls on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Sierra Spencer bagged a hat trick for the Garnet and Kat Baryenbruch recorded three assists in the win. Clare Perez, Melissa Zavez, Lizzy Stant, Ursula Monaghan and Kathleen Carmichael also found the back of the net.
Bryn Mawr was limited to one total shot, none on goal, as goalkeepers Zelda Bank and Ellory Laning combined for the shutout. Swarthmore also earned 19 penalty corners and put 14 shots toward net.
Sophie Peipher had two shots on goal in the first two minutes before Spencer started the scoring at 11:19 with her seventh goal of the season. Swarthmore tallied four more times in the period and held a commanding 5-0 lead at the half.
Monaghan put a goal on the board early in the second with a nice rip on a corner from Riya Garg to secure Swarthmore's first conference win of the season.
The field hockey team wraps up its season with Senior Day and Garnet Weekend festivities on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a 12 p.m. game against Haverford.
