SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 22 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer lost for just the second time this season, slipping at home against the McDaniel College Green Terror 2-0.
The Green Terror established an early lead, but despite out-shooting the visitors 19-11, the Garnet were unable to make a comeback.
The Garnet took 10 shots on goal and kept McDaniel to five shots on frame.
Sydney Hunter took the loss in goal while recording three saves.
McDaniel struck in the fourth minute, plunking a shot off the corner of the crossbar and the left post. McDaniel's Kirsten Gibson gathered the rebound and quickly finished the goal.
After allowing the goal, Swarthmore appeared to gain the majority of possession and began to get quality chances on goal. In the 19th minute, the Garnet drew McDaniel's goalkeeper all the way to the edge of the 18, but
Caroline Khanna's was denied with a point-blank save. Later in the second half, Khanna was robbed on a shot that plunked off the crossbar.
Swarthmore (12-2, 5-2 Centennial) sits in third place in the conference standings behind Johns Hopkins (6-0 Centennial) and McDaniel (5-0). The Garnet now need a tie in either of its two remaining games or a loss or tie by Muhlenberg in any of their three remaining games. Swarthmore plays Muhlenberg next, hosting the Mules on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
