WESTMINSTER, Md.–Despite scoring three unanswered goals to tie the game in the first half, the Swarthmore College field hockey team (4-11, 0-7 CC) fell 6-3 to the homestanding McDaniel Green Terror (4-9, 3-3 CC) on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Ursula Monaghan,
Jordyn Bell and
Riya Garg all tallied for the Garnet, which fell behind 3-0 after the first 15 minutes of play. Monaghan started the comeback with a goal at 20:38 as she weaved past the Terror defenders and found the back of the net for the second time this season.
Bell brought the visitors closer with her team-leading sixth goal of the season on a high shot and Garg completed the rally with an assist by classmate
Kathleen Carmichael. Unfortunately for Swarthmore, the game remained tied for just under 30 seconds as McDaniel snuck in a goal right before the half.
In the second period, goalkeeper
Ellory Laning made three early saves to keep the Garnet within reach, but they were unable to generate enough offense in the second half. Monaghan and Bell recorded shots on goal right before the end of the game as Swarthmore dropped its ninth consecutive game.
The field hockey team travels to Allentown, Pa. to face Muhlenberg on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
