SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 6 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer suffered its first loss on Saturday evening, losing 2-1 to Johns Hopkins University in a rematch of last season's Centennial Conference Championship game.
The visiting Blue Jays scored early, with Meg Van de Loo scoring in the fifth minute finishing a pass that sliced through the box.
Playing from behind for just the second time this season, Swarthmore evened the contest in the 57th minute. Sarah Hancock took a corner kick from the left side and played it deep to the far post. The kick continued to curl and hooked between the goalkeeper and the defender guarding the far post.
The tie score unfortunately did not last very long as the Blue Jays tallied a header goal in the 64th minute which proved to be the game winner.
Swarthmore goalkeeper Sydney Hunter was tested often by the Blue Jays and made several diving or leaping saves to prevent further damage. Hunter recorded 11 saves in the loss.
Swarthmore looks to bounce back on Wednesday on the road at Washington College (Md.) for a 7 p.m. match.
