SALEM, Va. – Two players scored in double figures for the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (3-7) as sophomore
Raina Williams and senior
Abbey Deckard netted 12 and 10 points, respectively, but the Garnet could not overcome the Washington & Lee Generals in a 50-77 loss on Sunday, Jan. 3.
Deckard was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Susan Dunagan Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Roanoke College after averaging 13 points and six rebounds in two contests over the weekend.
Sophomore
Bridget Scott was solid off the bench with nine points on only three shots while freshman
Kayla Sembly chipped in seven points in 14 minutes of action.
In the first quarter, Scott scored five of Swarthmore's nine points as the Generals took a 21-9 lead into the second. Williams netted seven points of her own in the second period, but five turnovers by the Garnet hurt the team's cause.
Trailing by 18 points to start the half, Swarthmore could not manage to cut its deficit to single digits as Washington & Lee added its second consecutive victory of the weekend.
The Garnet return to Centennial Conference competition with a home game against Gettysburg College on Thursday, Jan. 6. The tip-off at Tarble Pavilion is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
