SALEM, Va. – The Swarthmore College women's basketball team (3-6) fell 58-78 to host Roanoke in the first game of the Susan Dunagan Holiday Inn Classic on Saturday, Jan. 2.

Abbey Deckard led the Garnet with five rebounds and 16 points, including four makes from beyond the arc. Sophomore
Bridget Scott finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting as junior
Maggie O'Neil was 7-of-8 from the charity stripe with two blocks.
After a slow start in the first quarter, Swarthmore picked it up in the second with 16 points. O'Neil scored seven points in the frame and Deckard sank a three-pointer in the final minute of the half to give the Garnet a 22-32 deficit heading into the intermission.
A 14-5 run by the Maroons in the first few minutes of the third quarter put Swarthmore in a tough spot as the hosts later led by as many as 23. Sophomore

Jessica Jowdy added four.
Deckard paced the Garnet attack in the fourth behind eight points, but it was not enough to overtake Roanoke. Swarthmore concludes play at the Holiday Inn Classic on Sunday, Jan. 3 with a 4:00 p.m. game against Washington & Lee.
