Win Over Dickinson Makes Eight Straight for Women’s Soccer

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's soccer team (8-0, 2-0 CC) extended its win streak to eight games as it picked up a convincing, 2-0 win over Centennial Conference opponent Dickinson College on Saturday, Sept. 26. Junior Caroline Khanna and freshman Marin McCoy provided the goals for the Garnet.

With TCNJ's 2-1 win over Kean on Saturday, Swarthmore also became the only remaining team in NCAA Division III women's soccer to hold its opponents completely scoreless during the 2015 season.

The Garnet were on the offensive early, earning two corner kicks in the first eight minutes, and tested the Dickinson keeper with shots toward goal by McCoy and Hannah Lichtenstein. McCoy nearly put Swarthmore ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute, but her header glanced the crossbar and a follow-up attempt was just above the net.

A shot at 26:31 by senior Emily Telford-Marx also hit the crossbar as the Garnet looked to break open the scoreless contest. Swarthmore got on the board in the 33rd minute behind Khanna's fifth goal of the season, which was assisted by Lichtenstein.

Coming out of the second half, the Garnet added an insurance goal early in the frame as McCoy received a long ball from classmate Yasmeen Namazie and beat the goalie low for her ninth goal of the 2015 campaign.

Senior Reba Magier made two first-half saves in her third shutout of the season and the Garnet outshot the Red Devils 21-4.

Swarthmore continues Centennial Conference play when it travels to Baltimore, Md. on Oct. 3 for a 1:00 p.m. showdown at Johns Hopkins in a rematch of the 2014 Centennial Conference Finals.
