ASTON, Pa. – With 3-1 victories over Neumann and Lebanon Valley at the Neumann Knights' Invitational on Friday afternoon, the Swarthmore College volleyball team (8-3) extended its win streak to seven matches.
The Garnet opened the invitational with a 22-25, 25-11, 25-20, 25-20 win over Neumann as
Sarah Girard (22),
Malia Scott (17), and
Madison Heppe (14) all finished with double-figure digs. Outside hitter
Sarah Wallace had a near double-double with 14 kills and nine digs as did setter Sam Dubois, who totaled eight digs and 29 assists.
Olivia Leventhal and
Anastasia White-Torruellas recorded eight kills apiece for a Garnet attack that finished with a .193 hitting percentage.
Swarthmore ended the day on high note as it trumped Lebanon Valley by a 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 25-16 score. Wallace and Leventhal combined for 34 kills and DuBois had a complete stat line with 38 assists, 15 digs, and four block assists. Girard recorded a team-high 16 digs and the Garnet used 12 service aces, with three apiece from Scott, Heppe, and Leventhal, to bury the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College.
With the win over Lebanon Valley, Garnet head coach
Harleigh Chwastyk recorded her 200th career victory, all of which have been accumulated at Swarthmore.
The Garnet will finish pool play on Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. match against Salisbury, which finished 1-1 on the first day of the invitational. Depending on the results of that match, Swarthmore will wrap up the tournament with a crossover game at 2:00 or 4:00 p.m.
