LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior
Melissa Trofa of the Swarthmore College women's soccer team recorded her 22
nd career assist as the Garnet (6-0, 1-0 CC) beat Franklin & Marshall by a 5-0 score in its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 19. Swarthmore has opened the season with six consecutive shutouts and has scored 44 goals for an average of 7.33 per game.
Trofa, who has eight assists already this season, broke the previous program mark of 21 set by
Emma Sindelar '14 on a corner kick to the head of
Hannah Lichtenstein in the 14
th minute. Ten minutes later, Lichtenstein later gave the Garnet a 2-0 lead off a pass from
Katie Dougherty.
In the second half, Swarthmore exploded for three goals in just four minutes to bury the Diplomats for good. Freshman forward
Marin McCoy continued her impressive rookie campaign with the first of two goals in the game behind assistance from Dougherty and
Caroline Meier. At 76:42,
Mele Johnson scored from a free kick at the top of the box for her second goal of the season and later set up McCoy in the 79
th minute with a rebound on another deep free kick.

Emily Telford-Marx allowed the Diplomats only two shots in the game, one of which was on target and saved by
Reba Magier.
Swarthmore returns home to host Penn State Abington at Clothier Field on Monday, Sept. 21. Action begins at 7:00 p.m.
