SWARTHMORE, Pa. – It took less than a minute for the Swarthmore College women's soccer team (5-0) to get on the board as the Garnet set the tone early in an 11-0 rout of Immaculata University (0-4-1) on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Hannah Lichtenstein and
Katie Dougherty each finished with two goals as
Melissa Trofa and
Marin McCoy added two assists apiece. McCoy,
Tazmin Bailiff-Curtis,
Caroline Coats,
Claire O'Brien,
Emily Gale,
Izzy Branco-Lo, and
Yasmeen Namazie also found the back of the net for Swarthmore.
Lichtenstein scored her sixth goal of the season off of a wide free kick from Trofa just 56 seconds into the game. Swarthmore doubled up at 7:17 as Dougherty tipped in a ball at the goal line and then went up 3-0 only 40 seconds later on McCoy's sixth goal of the 2015 campaign.
Swarthmore recorded eight tallies in the first half and outshot the Mighty Macs 32 to one in the opening period.
The Garnet have outscored their opponents 39-0 through five games and are among eight Division III teams that have not conceded a goal during the 2015 season.
The team opens up Centennial Conference competition in Lancaster, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 19 when it travels to Franklin & Marshall for a 4:00 p.m. game. Swarthmore won last year's contest by a 3-0 score.
