Men's Tennis Trounces Haverford, 8-1, to Conclude Regular Season

John Larkin was a double winner for the Garnet.

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (12-5 CC 8-1) concluded its regular season with an 8-1 win over rival Haverford on Saturday, April 25.  

The Garnet men opened with a sweep of doubles play. Freshmen Mark Fallati and Ari Cepelewicz edged Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert by a score of 8-6 at No. 1.  At No. 2, senior Harrison Lands and freshman Josh Powell defeated Dais Nakayama and Ishaan Prinz, 8-3. Sophomore John Larkin and freshman Blake Oetting beat Eli Phelps and Benjamin Soloway by the same score at No. 3.

In singles competition, Larkin and two other Swarthmore players became double winners. At No. 1, Larkin beat Acaba in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Oetting won convincingly at No. 4 over Elbert, 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, freshman Yosuke Higashi and classmate Michael Song added to the Garnet's points. Higashi defeated Prinz, 6-4, 6-3, while Song won in three sets against Caleb Mayer, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5).

Swarthmore earned the second seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament and will play at home on May 2 against an opponent to be determined.
