No. 27 Men's Tennis Routs McDaniel in 9-0 Sweep

Ari Cepelewicz won 8-6 at first doubles and cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles.

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (9-4, CC 5-0) recorded its fourth sweep against Centennial Conference competition with a 9-0 victory against McDaniel College on Sunday, Apr. 12. 

At No. 1 doubles, freshman Mark Fallati and classmate Ari Cepelewicz defeated Seth McFall and Satchel McCarthy by a score of 8-6. Senior Harrison Lands paired with freshman Josh Powell at No. 2 to take down Daniel Xinis and Philip Jorgensen, 8-3. Junior Matt Hirsch and freshman Michael Song completed the doubles sweep with a win at No. 3 by an identical score.  

In singles play, five players claimed second victories in straight sets. At No. 1, Fallati beat McFall convincingly, 6-2, 6-3. Cepelewicz notched a win at No. 2, defeating McCarthy, 6-1, 6-2. Powell gave up only one game at No. 3 in a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Jorgensen.

Freshman Yosuke Higashi also earned a point towards the sweep with his 6-2, 6-0 win over Xinis at No. 4. Rounding out the Garnet lineup, Hirsh dominated, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5, while Lands shut out his opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
 
Swarthmore returns to action next Saturday, April 18, when the men travel to Dickinson College for a 1 p.m. match.
