th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team (6-4, CC 2-0) remains unbeaten in Centennial Conference play following a 9-0 sweep of Muhlenberg College on Tuesday, March 31.
The Garnet first captured all three matches in doubles play. At No. 1, freshmen
Mark Fallati and
Ari Cepelewicz defeated Eric Chavis and Derrick Eng by a score of 8-4. At No. 2, senior
Harrison Lands partnered with freshman
Josh Powell to edge out Mickey Schindler and Keith Beizer, 9-7. Sophomore
John Larkin and freshman
Blake Oetting completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
In singles competition, Larkin, Fallati, Cepelewicz, and Lands achieved their second wins on the day. Larkin earned a 7-6, 6-4 victory at No. 1 over Daniel Lakhman, while Fallati defeated David Woods at No. 2, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. At No. 3, Cepelewicz fought Chavis, ultimately winning 6-1, 3-6, 10-4, and Lands dominated at No. 6 by a 6-1, 6-0 decision.
Freshmen
Yosuke Higashi and
Michael Song also won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Higashi prevailed over Schindler, 2-6, 6-1, 10-5, and Song easily defeated Eng, 6-2, 6-1.
Swarthmore resumes conference play on Friday, April 3 when the team travels to 10
th-ranked Johns Hopkins for a 4 p.m. match.
