BOX SCORESWARTHMORE, Pa – The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (5-3, CC 1-1) suffered a Centennial Conference loss by a score of 6-3 to Muhlenberg College at home on Friday, March 27.
The Garnet women opened the match with a doubles sweep. Freshmen
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Bronkema scored the first team point with their 8-3 domination over Molly Kowalski and Ashlee Ludwig at No. 3. Junior
Jackie Lane and freshman
Anna Scheibmeir followed at No. 2, beating Sharen Resnikoff and Hannah Molk by an identical score. Completing the sweep, sophomore
Alli Wong and freshman
Maria Cuervo teamed up at No. 1 to defeat Sara Finger and Jennifer Goldberg, 8-4.
Singles competition featured multiple close matches. At No. 1 Wong pushed her first set against Finger to a tiebreak, ultimately falling 7-6(1), 6-2. Gao was edged out at No. 3 by Resnikoff by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 10-4, and Lane lost narrowly at No. 4, 7-5, 6-4. Fighting back from a first set deficit, Bronkema nearly pulled out a win, but was defeated at No. 6 by Kowalski, 6-0, 2-6, 10-8.
Swarthmore will travel to Washington College to continue conference play on Wednesday, April 1.
