rd-ranked Oberlin College by a score of 4-1, before bouncing back to open Centennial Conference play with an 8-1 victory against McDaniel College on
Sunday, March 22.
Against Oberlin, freshman
Maria Cuervo earned Swarthmore's sole point at No. 2 singles. In straight sets, she defeated Erin Johnson, 6-4, 6-4.
Swarthmore's domination over McDaniel began with a doubles sweep. At No. 1, sophomore
Alli Wong partnered with Cuervo to earn an 8-1 win over Maddy Simmons and Winsome Schauer. Cuervo also blanked Tori Simmons at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshmen
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Bronkema were both double winners for the day. They teamed up at No. 2 doubles to notch an 8-2 victory over T. Simmons and Danielle Cloney. Gao then defeated Schaauer decisively at No. 3 singles, while Bronkema prevailed at No. 5 over her opponent, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4
Freshmen
May Dong and
Sophia Schuster earned a No. 3 doubles victory over Nicole Arnold and Dana Waskiewicz, 8-3. Dong rounded out the singles lineup, achieving her second win by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Junior
Jackie Lane also earned a team point with her 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
The Garnet women take to the court again at 4:30 p.m. on
Friday, March 27 when they host Muhlenberg College.
