BOX SCORESWARTHMORE, Pa - Without dropping a single set in nine matches, the Swarthmore College men's tennis team (4-3, CC 1-0) opened Centennial Conference competition with a 9-0 victory against Ursinus (5-4, CC 0-1) at home on
Thursday, March 19. Five players were double winners for the day.
Freshmen
Mark Fallati and
Ari Cepelewicz teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Caleb Kramer and Tyler Arsenault by a score of 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
John Larkin and freshman
Blake Oetting beat Henry Burke and Dalton Lynch convincingly, 8-2. Closing out doubles play, freshman
Yosuke Higashi and classmate
Josh Powell blanked their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Garnet domination continued into singles competition. At No. 1, Larkin handled Kramer in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, and Fallati notched his second victory of the day with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2. Cepelewicz then earned his singles point for the team, defeating his opponent at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2.
Freshmen
Blake Oetting and
Michael Song won easily at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Oetting only lost one game, winning by a score of 6-1, 6-0, while Song prevailed over his opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Powell completed Swarthmore's sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 6.
The men will play a non-conference match when they travel to DePauw University
this Saturday,March 21.
