SWARTHMORE, Pa – The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (1-1) picked up a non-conference win in a six-hour match against Millsaps College (1-3) by a score of 5-4 at home on Sunday, March 1.
 
Freshman Ashley Gao was a double winner for the Garnet. She teamed up with classmate Rachel Bronkema at No. 3 doubles to defeat Madison Brennan and Reya Hayek, 8-4. Junior Jackie Lane and freshman Anna Scheibmeir followed at No. 2 doubles, claiming an 8-5 victory over Anna Brahce and Rachel Beck.  

In singles competition, No. 3 freshman Maria Cuervo won in straight sets over Brahce, 6-4, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Gao dropped only two games, winning easily over Hayek, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Sophia Schuster clinched the match when she held on at No. 6. Schuster fought back from a second-set deficit to win 6-2, 7-6(2).  

The women will continue match play next Sunday, March 8, when they take on Westminster College (Pa.) during spring break in Hilton Head, S.C.
