BOX SCORESWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (1-0) opened its spring season with a 4-3 win against Delaware (0-9) at home on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Playing under Division I rules with one point awarded in doubles play, the Garnet took three of the six singles matches and two of the three matches in doubles competition.
At No. 1 doubles, freshmen
Ari Cepelewicz and
Mark Fallati defeated Tyler Flematti and Shane Jeffray by a score of 8-6. Freshman
Blake Oetting and sophomore
John Larkin secured the first point with their hard-fought 9-8 (2) victory over Mike Furr and Alex Sweet at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Fallati first prevailed over Jeffray at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 7-5, while Larkin earned a decisive 6-2, 6-1 win over Furr at No. 1. Oetting ultimately clinched the match for the Garnet when he beat Flematti 6-3, 7-6 (2) at No. 4 singles.
Swarthmore will host NYU on Saturday, Feb. 28th at 2 p.m.
