Men's Basketball Rolls To Fifth Straight

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Basketball recorded a 30-point victory over the Washington College Shoremen on Wednesday night to extend their win streak to five games to start the season. The Swarthmore Garnet improved to 2-0 in Centennial Conference play with the 84-54 win.

Swarthmore dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Shoremen 52-17.

Post players Chris Bourne and Robbie Walsh recorded double-doubles for the second game in-a-row. Bourne scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting (81.8 percent) to go with his 10 rebounds. Robbie Walsh went 6-for-7 from the floor to finish with 16 points while collecting 10 rebounds as well. Additionally, Walsh rejected three Washington shots, and Bourne blocked two.

Matt Brennan, Sam Lebryk and Zack Yonda all added eight points.

Washington shot 9-of-31 (29 percent) from beyond the arc and 20-of-62 (32.3 percent) overall. The Shoremen also only went 5-for-14 (35.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

Swarthmore, meanwhile, shot 31-for-53 (58.5 percent) overall, 7-for-20 from 3-point land (35 percent) and 15-20 from the line (15-for-20).

The Garnet burst to a 15-point lead within the first five minutes of the game, going 5-for-5 from 3-point range in that early span.

The Shoremen clawed back into the game by halftime, knocking down a 3-pointer in the final second of the half to pull within three points.

A 7-0 run to start the second half gave Swarthmore a little cushion. The Garnet really started to roll with 12 minutes left when a 3-pointer by Henry Cousineau kicked off a 20-2 run over the next five-and-a-half minutes. The Garnet capped off the run with an unorthodox 3-point play. After Walsh made the first of a pair of free throws, his second attempt was tapped in by Bourne, giving Swarthmore a 73-46 lead with 6:55 to go.

Swarthmore maintained control the rest of the night en route to the 84-54 win.

The Garnet are back in action on Saturday at McDaniel in a 3 p.m. game.
