Streak Hits 13 in Volleyball's Win Over Washington

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team (14-3, 4-0 CC) extended its win streak to 13 matches on Tuesday night in Tarble Pavilion with a 3-1 win over Washington College. The Garnet triumphed by a 25-13, 25-19, 13-25, 25-22 score to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference competition.

Malia Scott filled the box score with 24 digs, four service aces, four kills, four assists, and two block assists. Freshman libero Sarah Girard totaled a match-high 26 digs and Sarah Wallace recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 15 digs. Bridget Scott led the way with three block assists as Sam DuBois and Alice Liu had two apiece. DuBois also crossed the 2,500-career assist mark with 38 in the match.

Swarthmore captured the first five points of the opening set and used a .317 hitting percentage to run away from the Shorewomen. Down the stretch, Bridget Scott swung four of her six kills in the match as the Garnet ended the first set on a four-point run.

In the second, Swarthmore limited Washington College to a hitting percentage of .088 and recorded five blocks on the visitors. Liu and Wallace combined for eight kills with no errors in a back-and-forth set that was broken open when the Garnet took six consecutive points for a 23-18 lead.

Washington College staved off elimination in the third, but Swarthmore rallied in the fourth amidst eight ties and two lead changes in the frame. Wallace notched seven kills and six digs to go along with three service aces and senior Anastasia White-Torruellas closed out the match with her fourth kill of the evening.

The volleyball team puts its win steak and unblemished conference mark on the line when it hosts Gettysburg on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
