Volleyball Sweeps Gettysburg, Remains Unbeaten in Last 14

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A solo block by senior Sam DuBois capped off the match for the Swarthmore College volleyball team (15-3, 5-0 CC) as it swept the visiting Gettysburg Bullets (10-10, 1-3 CC) on Saturday, Oct. 10. Swarthmore's win streak stands at a program-best 14 matches and is one of the longest active stretches in Division III.

The Garnet prevailed 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 to remain undefeated against Centennial Conference opponents this season.

DuBois recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 15 digs and currently sits at 991 digs for her career. Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Wallace swung 14 kills and no errors and completed a double-double of her own with 17 digs. Freshman Sarah Girard and sophomore Malia Scott also finished in double figures for digs with 17 and 15, respectively.  Olivia Leventhal had 12 kills on the afternoon.

Swarthmore overcame a slow start in the first set and outhit the Bullets .273 to .191 in a closely-contested battle that featured 10 ties and six lead changes. The Garnet pulled ahead for good at 22-21 and captured three of the next four points to close out the set.

In the second, Swarthmore used a seven-point run early in the frame to force a Gettysburg timeout. The Bullets would later answer with a run of their own to cut their deficit to four at 11-15, but the Garnet defense was too strong as it limited the visitors to a hitting percentage of .073.

The third set was a nailbaiter as Gettysburg threatened to extend the match holding a 22-20 lead and service. Leventhal came through with a kill and consecutive service aces by Malia Scott gave Swarthmore a lead it did not relinquish.

The volleyball team travels to Ursinus College on Wednesday, Oct. 14 for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Bears.
