Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Garnet Roll To 4-0 Win On Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey attacked the Ferrum College Panthers with regularity on Saturday afternoon, taking 38 shots to the Panthers two. Swarthmore scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute and then capitalized for three more goals early in the second half. Swarthmore goalkeepers Ainsley Parrish, Zelda Bank and Ellory Laning combined for the shutout in the 4-0 win.

Erin Gluck, Audrey Allen, Jane Blicher and Kathleen Carmichael all scored. Gluck put the Garnet on the board in the 17th minute, following up a shot from Allen that the Ferrum goalkeeper saved. Gluck got a stick on the rebound and swept the shot in for her team-high 14th goal this season. The Garnet earned eight penalty corners in the first half and took 23 shots. Swarthmore forced Ferrum's Courtney Gosselin to make eight of her nine saves in the first period and also had a few shots miss just wide. Gosselin also denied a Swarthmore penalty stroke in the first half.

Swarthmore, however, broke through early in the second half. In the 38th minute, Gluck's corner insert went to Jane Blicher who made a quick pass to Audrey Allen who struck home her second goal of the season.
Blicher added a goal to her stat line two minutes later off a penalty corner. Blicher kept Gluck's inserted pass and blasted home her second tally of the year.

Swarthmore capped off its scoring in the 45th minute. Ursula Monaghan forced a Ferrum turnover in the backfield and then passed to Gluck who worked toward the baseline and then returned the pass to Monaghan. Monaghan cut towards the circle and slapped a hard hit ball to Jordyn Bell who quickly found Kathleen Carmichael on the left post for the deflection goal.

Swarthmore's midfield and defense continued to keep Ferrum at a distance the rest of the game. Ferrum took one shot in the final 20 minutes, but Zelda Bank turned the attempt away.

The Garnet honored their five seniors prior to the game: Audrey Allen, Julia Thomas, Erin Gluck, Laura Hyder and Ainsley Parrish.

Swarthmore continues play at Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday afternoon.
