HAVERFORD, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey wrapped up the 2015 season on the road on Saturday at Haverford College. Garnet senior
Erin Gluck scored twice in the second half, but the Garnet fell 4-2.
A two-minute stretch in the first half proved to be the difference in the contest. Swarthmore kept Haverford off the board through the first 19 minutes and turned away five Fords' penalty corners up to that point. The Garnet conceded a goal in the 20th minute and then 42 seconds later the Ford scored again. The Fords stung the Garnet for their third straight goal a minute later. Haverford added one more tally with 20 seconds left in the first half.
Swarthmore cracked the Fords' defense in the third minute of the second half. The Garnet earned a penalty corner in the 38th minute. Gluck took the insert and after she and
Clare Perez took an attempt, Gluck recovered the rebound and finished in a crowd in front of the cage. The Garnet recorded all 13 of their corners in the second half. The Garnet out-cornered the Fords 13-7.
In the 50th minute, Swarthmore chipped away with its second goal of the game. Gluck dribbled into the circle and buried a shot between the goalkeeper and the far post. Gluck led the Garnet with 16 goals on the season.
The Garnet took 10 of their corners after scoring the second goal, generating offensive opportunities, but couldn't pull any closer.
Swarthmore's freshman goalkeeper
Zelda Bank recorded eight saves.
The Garnet have five seniors whose careers are concluding:
Audrey Allen,
Erin Gluck,
Laura Hyder,
Ainsley Parrish and
Julia Thomas. The Garnet will look to build on this year's experience in 2016 with 16 players slated to return.
