Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Garnet Clip Ospreys 3-2

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—After Stockton University scored to knot the game at 2-2 in the second half of Sunday's field hockey game, Swarthmore College responded 32 seconds later to take the lead for good on a goal by Erin Gluck. Swarthmore Field Hockey fended off multiple Stockton attempts down the stretch and secured the 3-2 non-conference victory.

Swarthmore scored two first-half goals on the only two shots the team took in the period. Clare Perez gave the Garnet the lead in the 5th minute when she struck a reverse chip from the left side of the circle that finished past the goalkeeper high in the upper right corner of the cage.

The Garnet increased the lead to 2-0 in the 16th minute. Jordyn Bell navigated to the goal line and then crossed the ball back into the middle for Kathleen Carmichael. Carmichael spun and launched in her second goal of the year.

Swarthmore goalkeeper Zelda Bank denied three shots on goal in the first half, but Stockton got on the board in the 29th minute after a penalty corner. Bank finished with nine saves in the win.

Stockton tied the game at 2-2 at the end of 48th minute. But, just 32 seconds later, Swarthmore's Erin Gluck recovered the ball in transition and sprinted downfield, beating the defense and firing a shot from about 10 meters out that went in near the far post.

With the lead in hand, Swarthmore still had to battle to keep Stockton from equalizing. Stockton earned six penalty corners the rest of the way, including one with a minute remaining. Gluck flew out of the cage to initially disrupt that corner play and then Jane Blicher parried a Stockton pass back out of the circle to deny the scoring opportunity.

The Garnet continue the five-game home stand on Wednesday when Muhlenberg comes to Clothier Field Stadium for a 4 p.m. conference game.
