WESTMINSTER, Md.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer went the distance with the McDaniel College Green Terror in Saturday's Centennial Conference game, but neither team could find the back of the net in 110 minutes of play.
The Garnet out-shot the Green Terror 14-4 and put five of those shots on goal. Swarthmore kept McDaniel from getting any looks on target, and senior goalkeeper
Tyler Zon earned the shutout without having to officially record a save. Swarthmore placed shots on goal towards the end of each of the first two periods.
Omodayo Origunwa's shot in the 41st minute was saved, and
Tommy Sheehan's attempt in the 89th minute was also turned away.
Swarthmore had an attempt at the golden goal in the 93rd minute when freshman
Cameron Ricciardi cranked a shot that plunked off the left post. Swarthmore earned a corner kick in the 109th minute, but no scoring chance materialized off the play.
With the 0-0 stalemate, Swarthmore's conference record goes to 2-2-2 and McDaniel moves to 0-5-1.
The tie drops Swarthmore into sixth in the conference standings. After a non-conference game with Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, the Garnet will have a chance to move back into fifth place when they play Dickinson at home next Saturday.
