Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Edged By Green Terror

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey scored twice in the second half of Saturday's Centennial Conference game against the McDaniel College Green Terror but fell by a final score of 4-2.

The Garnet pulled within one goal with less than six minutes to play, but the Green Terror pushed in a goal from the doorstep in the 69th minute to secure the outcome.

McDaniel went ahead 1-0 in the 10th minute on the first of three goals by Gabrielle Yore. Yore leads the Centennial Conference in scoring this season.
The Garnet kept the Green Terror out of the cage for nearly the rest of the half. Zelda Bank started the game for the Garnet and made three first half saves and then added five more in the second period. Laura Hyder also came up with a defensive save in the 25th minute. The Green Terror, however, did add to their lead less than two minutes before halftime on Yore's second goal.

Swarthmore broke through early in the second half, earning back-to-back corner plays on their opening possession of the period. Erin Gluck set up in front of the goal line after inserting the corner to the far side of the circle. Clare Perez dished the ball into Sierra Spencer who slid the pass across to Gluck for the finish.

The Green Terror went up 3-1 in the 60th minute, but Swarthmore pulled back within one in the 65th minute. Kathleen Carmichael crossed a pass into the middle from the right wing, locating Gluck in traffic. Gluck quickly passed to Perez who slapped home the goal.

McDaniel, however, scored the important insurance goal in the 69th minute.

The Garnet, who had earned penalty corners at the end of both periods, finished with 10 corners to McDaniel's five.

Swarthmore is back at home on Sunday at noon against Stockton University.
