Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Ignited by a pair of second-half goals, 21st-ranked Muhlenberg defeated the Swarthmore College men's soccer team by a 2-0 score on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Varsity Field.

After a scoreless first half, Muhlenberg (7-0-2, CC 2-0-1) got on the board in the 54th minute when Tommy Hoffmann headed home a long throw in from Joe Adams for his first goal of the season. Twelve minutes later, Adams doubled the Mules advantage by finishing a pass from Hoffmann off a corner kick.

Swarthmore (6-3-1, CC 0-3) attempted to slice the deficit while playing a man up for the final 15 minutes of regulation. Shortly after senior Michael Stewart unleashed a pair of shots attempts that were blocked and wide of the net, freshman Joaquin Delmar netted his first career goal off the far post following a corner kick attempt by sophomore Billy Evers to make it 2-1.

The Garnet continued to attack and look for opportunities in the waning minutes, which included earning a corner kick in the 86th. However, the Mule defense cleared away every attempt to eventually survive and escape with the win.

Danny Pinto earned the victory in goal by making three saves for Muhlenberg. Junior Tyler Zon of Swarthmore turned away two shots in the defeat.

Swarthmore continues Centennial Conference play when it hosts Ursinus on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
