Christian Carcione each recorded wins in singles and doubles play to lead the Swarthmore College men's tennis team to a 5-0 win over Haverford in a Centennial Conference semifinal matchup on Saturday, May 3 at Faulkner Courts.
Swarthmore began the afternoon by sweeping doubles action. Kaye and classmate
Harrison Lands earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while senior
Anthony Collard and freshman
Thomas Vernier were victorious by an 8-4 score at the No. 2 spot. Carcione and
Dan Park triumphed in the No. 3 spot by an 8-6 score.
The Garnet earned two more points in singles play to earn their second straight victory over the Fords. Kaye earned an easy 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles before Carcione clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
Swarthmore will travel to Baltimore to play top-seeded Johns Hopkins tomorrow afternoon in the championship match at 3 p.m. The winner will receive in automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
