BOX SCORECOLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (5-6, 4-0 CC) narrowly edged Ursinus, 5-4, en route to its fourth consecutive conference win on Wednesday, Apr. 9.
Opening with singles, Swarthmore and Ursinus split the six matches. Senior
Brooke Wilkins put the Garnet on the board with her 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Stephanie Seabra. Completing her match shortly afterwards, senior
Lia Carlson earned the team's second point for the day, dominating Heather McMasters at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman
Alli Wong dropped only one game at No. 2 singles, trouncing Audrey Whitebloom, 6-0, 6-1.
Ursinus picked up three points at No. 3, 5, and 6 singles, and also earned a point when the Swarthmore team was forced to default the No. 3 doubles match.
Moving into doubles, the women faced a must-win situation, finding themselves down 3-4 in the overall team score. Wilkins partnered with junior
Gayatri Iyengar and earned an 8-1 victory a No. 2 doubles, leveling the team score to 4-4. Carlson and Wong both picked up their second wins for the day as they clinched the match at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win over McMasters and Whitebloom.
Swarthmore will look to continue its winning streak when they travel to Muhlenberg on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
