Anthony Collard was among six double winners to help lead the Swarthmore College men's tennis team to a dominating 9-0 victory over Washington College on Tuesday, Apr. 22 in Maryland.
The Garnet first captured all three doubles matches, which was highlighted by an impressive 8-2 win by junior
Irving Stone and freshman
John Larkin at the No. 3 position. Collard and freshman
Thomas Vernier as well as seniors
Christian Carcione and
Max Kaye posted identical 8-5 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively.
Collard was victorious in No. 1 singles play by set scores of 6-1 and 6-0, while Vernier, his doubles partner, did not drop a match in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 spot. Stone won his No. 4 singles match decisively by scores of 6-0 and 6-1, and Kaye, Larkin and Carcione also downed their singles opponents to complete the sweep of the Shoremen.
Swarthmore (10-7, CC 7-1) wraps up the regular season when it hosts archrival Haverford on Saturday, Apr. 26 at 1 p.m.
