SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Playing at home on Sunday, March 23, the Swarthmore College women's tennis team (1-6) picked up two wins en route to a 7-2 loss against No. 21 University of Mary Washington.
At No. 1 singles,
Lia Carlson avenged previous losses to Lindsey Raulston with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Freshman
Alli Wong earned the Garnet's second point for the day, fighting through a challenging first set, 7-6 (6) before Alex Ritter defaulted at 3-2 the second set.
The match featured a number of other close encounters, with seniors
Katie Samuelson and
Brooke Wilkins dropping a close 8-4 exchange at No. 2 doubles to Alina Suyama and Mackenzie Smith. In singles, Samuelson was edged at No. 2 by Shelby Harris 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 6 singles, Wilkins battled before dropping an 8-4 decision to Paige Weinberg.
The Garnet women have one non-conference match remaining before they resume Centennial Conference action. They will face Christopher Newport at home on Saturday, March 29.
