CLAREMONT, CALIF. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team opened up play at the Stags-Hens Invitational with a pair of losses to nationally-ranked opponents on Friday, March 15. The Garnet fell 9-0 to No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps before concluding the evening with a 7-2 setback against No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer.
Swarthmore (2-3), which has lost all three of its dual matches to nationally-ranked opponents, picked up points against Pomona-Pitzer at No. 1 singles and No. 6 singles. Senior
Anthony Collard earned a three-set win over senior Chris Wiechert by scores of 6-1, 3-6 and 10-6.
Dan Park, another senior, defeated sophomore Thomas Low 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman

Max Kaye were competitive in their individual matches for the Garnet against undefeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earlier in the day. Freshman Daniel Morkovine rallied to defeat Larkin in three sets at No. 4 singles by scores of 2-6, 6-1 and 10-0, while Kaye fell in straight sets to junior Nikolas Marino, 6-3 and 7-6, at No. 2 singles.
Swarthmore is slated to open up action in the consolation bracket against 18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow beginning at 1:30 p.m. EST.
