SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior
Dan Park won his singles and doubles matches to lead Swarthmore to a convincing 6-1 victory over Delaware on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Mullan Center. Playing under Division I rules with only one point awarded in doubles play, the Garnet took five of the six singles matches and two of the three matches in doubles competition to earn a win in its first dual match of the spring.
Delaware got its only singles victory for the No. 1 spot, as Troy Beneck defeated
Anthony Collard 6-3, 6-4. Senior
Max Kaye earned a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 singles position, while senior
Preston Poon, freshman
John Larkin, junior
Irving Stone and Park also won singles matches.
The Garnet won the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to claim the final point under the Division I format by identical 6-3 scores. Freshman
Thomas Vernier and Collard teamed up at the No. 2 spot and
Christian Carcione and Park triumphed in the No. 3 position.
Swarthmore (1-0) returns to action to host Stevens on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m.
