Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. – Junior Mike Ryan scored two second-half goals to lift Rutgers-Camden to a 2-0 victory over Swarthmore in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at RUC Community Park.
Playing in pouring rain, Ryan had the first major opportunity to light up the scoreboard when he was awarded a penalty kick midway through the first half. Swarthmore junior goalkeeper
Tyler Zon, however, made the key save to keep the match scoreless at the time. Junior
David Geschwind of Swarthmore later had his shot redirected off the post by Raptor freshman goalkeeper Sean Matias, and the team's headed into the break tied at 0-0.
Ryan broke the tie in the 72nd minute when he finished a pass from sophomore Mike Naylor. He then doubled the Raptor lead by beating Zon off the dribble at the top of the box to make in the 81st minute to seal the final outcome.
Matias made four saves to earn the shutout between the pipes for Rutgers-Camden (10-7), which advanced to the national championship match last season before falling to Messiah. Zon also turned away four shots for the Garnet.
Swarthmore (8-5-2) will return to Centennial Conference action when it travels to face 16th-ranked Dickinson on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
