Garnet Upended by Rangers in Drew Fall Festival Finale

Box Score MADISON, N.J. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team suffered a non-confernece loss on Saturday afternoon by a 10-1 score in favor of Drew University, hosts of the Drew Fall Festival.

Backed by an offensive surge in the first half, the Rangers strung together seven unanswered goals in the opening 35 mintues to take command and en route to its 20th Fall Festival title. Sam Bucia led the Rangers with four goals and one assist, including a hat trick to open the game.

Swarthmore, defending tournament champion, were held scoreless until midway through the second half when Ursula Monaghan '17 received a pass in front from Aarti Rao '14 for her first collegiate goal. The Garnet finished with just five shots on goal to the Rangers' 34 on target.

Between the pipes, Gabby Capone '14 and Ainsley Parrish '16 combined for 24 saves for the Garnet. Sarah Stewart came up with three saves in the first half for Drew and defender Jess Johnson made a defensive save late in the second half.

Swarthmore will look to turn the momentum around in time for its home opener on Thursday, September 5 hosting Richard Stockton at 4:00 p.m.
