HAVERFORD, Pa. – Powered by a doubles sweep, the Haverford College Fords (10-6, 7-2 CC) upset No. 26 Swarthmore College men's tennis (10-9, 6-3 CC) by a 7-2 score on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the regular season schedule.
With the loss, Swarthmore becomes the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs and will compete against an opponent yet to be determined. Haverford is set as the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.
Preston Poon and Malik Mubeen were the lone Garnet winners on the day in No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Mubeen finished opponent Zach Mason (6-1, 6-0) and Poon took three sets to defeat Matt Romei (6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-7).
The Fords took control of the doubles competition, collecting victories on all three courts and continued rolling into singles play. Anthony Collard put up a good fight at the No. 1 singles, but fell just short of Kevin Caulfield (6-4, 7-5).
