Surging Women's Tennis Clinches Playoff Spot With 9-0 Win Over Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (11-2, 8-0) clinched a playoff berth with a 9-0 win at Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon.

It was the team's third straight shutout, maintaining its unblemished Centennial Conference record.

The Garnet opened with a sweep of the doubles' matches. Senior Stephanie Chia and junior Epiphany English earned the first point for the Garnet, winning at No. 3 against Cantor/Diamond 8-4. No. 1 and No. 2 doubles were tighter contests, but both Swarthmore teams won 8-6. Senior Emily Rosenblum and junior Lia Carlson defeated Lavery/Rodgers at No. 1 and juniors Katie Samuelson and Brooke Wilkins downed Altholtz/Hedderich at No. 2.

Carlson, Rosenblum, Chia, and Samuelson were all double winners for the day. Carlson dominated at No. 1 against Rodgers (6-2, 6-2). Rosenblum fought back after losing the first set to win at No. 2 against Lavery (0-6, 6-4, 10-4). Chia won at No. 4 (7-6 (6), 6-1) and Samuelson at No. 5.

The other two winners in the sweep of the Red Devils were senior Kelsey Johnson at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2) and freshman Jackie Lane at No. 6 (6-4, 6-1).

The team will look to continue its winning streak at Haverford on Thursday at 4:00.
