No. 23 Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight, Defeats McDaniel, 7-2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The No. 23 Swarthmore College men's tennis team (7-6, 3-1) won its third consecutive match with a victory at McDaniel College (2-11, 0-5) on Wednesday afternoon, besting the Green Terror by a score of 7-2 at the Warfield Courts.

Anthony Collard, Preston Poon, James Wieler and William Chung were all double-winners on the day as part of Swarthmore's five point sweep in singles and doubles play.

In doubles action, the Garnet got off to a tough start as the tandem of Daniel Park and Max Kaye dropped a close contested 9-8 decision at No. 1 doubles. However, the duos of Poon and Collard won 8-3 over their counterparts at No. 2 doubles to quickly tie up the match, followed by the combos of Wieler and Chung to sweep all eight games to give the Garnet a 2-1 lead at No. 3 doubles.

Collard took No. 1 singles from McDaniel's Brian Kron 6-2, 6-3 and Poon claimed the No. 2 spot in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). Kaye took control at No. 3 spot with a 7-5, 6-1 decision over the Green Terror's Danile Xinis to seal the victory. In the bottom flights, Wieler (6-0, 6-0) and Chung (6-1, 6-1) all won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. McDaniels took No. 6 singles as Swarthmore did not have a player and forfeited the point by default to finish off the match.

Swarthmore returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Lancaster to face Franklin & Marshall in a conference matchup.
