Women's Tennis Steamrolls Muhlenberg, 9-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (4-1, 2-0) posted its second-straight shutout of Centennial Conference competition, blanking Muhlenberg 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts.

The Garnet dropped just one set in its dominant  home victory.

Swarthmore got the ball rolling with a hard-earned sweep of doubles. Juniors Brooke Wilkins and Katie Samualson won at No. 2 (8-2) and senior Kelsey Johnson and freshman Jackie Lane won at No. 3 (8-4), but the story was the comeback at No. 1 doubles. The team of junior Lia Carlson and senior Emily Rosenblum rallied from down 7-4 to win 9-7 over Sanders/Szulman of Muhlenberg.

Up 3-0, Swarthmore finished off the sweep with a solid showing in singles. Carlson (6-3, 6-2), Rosenblum (6-3, 6-4), Johnson (5-7, 6-4, 10-6), senior Stephanie Chia (6-2, 6-2), Lane (6-4, 6-4) and sophomore Gayatri Iyengar (6-4, 6-4) all won to close out the Mules.

Swarthmore returns to action on Friday at regional-rival Mary Washington. Play begins at 4:00 p.m.
