SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (4-5, 1-0) opened Centennial Conference play in dominant fashion, not dropping a set en route to a 9-0 victory over Ursinus on Wednesday evening from the Mullan Tennis Center.
Senior James Wieler, junior Anthony Collard, junior Max Kaye junior Preston Poon, and sophomore Max Sacks were all double winners for the Garnet.
After struggling in doubles play during its Spring Break trip, the Garnet came out strong against Bears, sweeping doubles to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Kaye/Sacks won at No. 1 (8-3), Poon/Collard were victorious at No. 2 (8-1) and Wieler/Daniel Park closed it at No. 3 (8-3).
In singles, it was once again all Garnet. Collard won his fourth-straight match at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0). Sacks, Poon, Kaye and Wieler swept singles 2 through 5. Freshman Matt Hirsh closed it out at No. 6 singles, winning 6-4, 6-1.
Swarthmore is off for 10 days and returns to action at home on March 30 against rival Johns Hopkins.
