POMONA, Calif. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team picked up its first win of Spring Break by defeating homestanding Pomona-Pitzer 6-3 in the consolation round of the Stag-Hen Invitational. Earlier in the day, the Garnet fell to No. 2 Emory 8-1.
Against the Sagehens, the Garnet (3-4) won all six singles to cruise to victory. Junior Anthony Collard won his No. 1 singles match 7-6 (4), 6-1. Swarthmore then earned three-set wins in No. 2 and 3 singles, as Max Sacks and Preston Poon both rallied to win their respective matches. Senior Malik Mubeen clinched the victory at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2).
Against No. 2 Emory -- the Garnet's second Top 2 opponent of Spring Break, Collard was again a winner at No. 1 singles, but Swarthmore eventually fell 8-1
Swarthmore closes out its Spring trip against Case Western in the final round of the Stag-Hen on Saturday.
