Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior
Joe Keedy tallied a goal and an assist to propel the Swarthmore College men's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout win over Muhlenberg on Saturday, Nov. 16 in an ECAC semifinal matchup at Clothier Field. With the victory, the Garnet advanced to tomorrow's championship battle against Lebanon Valley.
Swarthmore got on the scoreboard early when sophomore
David Geschwind finished a pass from freshman
Billy Evers in the 10th minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage they would carry into the break.
Keedy then factored into a pair of second-half goals to help lift the Garnet to their second straight victory over the Mules this season. The senior first won a bouncing loose ball that was played inside the box by
Michael Superdock through a scrum of players from both sides and shot it past Mule goalkeeper Ellison Heil to double the Swarthmore lead.
In the final minute, Keedy assisted on an insurance goal from the top of the box when he found classmate
Chris Lynn to his left. The senior then unleashed a shot that landed in the back of the net with just 25 seconds on the clock. Evers was also credited with a helper on the play.
Senior
Peter Maxted picked up the shutout victory by making three saves on eight chances for Swarthmore. Ellison Heil of Muhlenberg (10-8-1) turned away seven of the 14 shots he faced in the setback.
Swarthmore (11-5-4) will face Lebanon Valley in tomorrow's ECAC South Region championship game at 3 p.m. on Clothier Field.
