Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore
David Geschwind and junior
Michael Superdock each found the back of the net to help lift the #15 Swarthmore College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Muhlenberg on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Clothier Field. With the victory, the Garnet kept their undefeated record intact and ended the evening tied for first place in the conference standings with Ursinus.
Swarthmore (6-0-3, CC 2-0-1) got on the scoreboard just past the midway point of the first half and never looked back. Geschwind received a pass from
Wyatt McCall and beat goalkeeper Ellison Heil with a shot to the far post that gave the Garnet a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
After senior
Joe Keedy rocketed a shot that was saved by Heil, Swarthmore would double its lead off a corner kick in the 57th minute. Superdock, who netted the equalizer in the Garnet's 1-1 tie with Ursinus over the weekend, hammered home a corner kick that was taken by McCall.
Muhlenberg (5-5, CC 1-2), however, was able to slice the deficit in half when Lance Dotzman headed the ball past senior
Peter Maxted off a throw in taken by Joe Adams. The Mules also came close to finding the back of the net in the waning minutes on a free kick that was intercepted and initially dropped by Maxted, but the senior was able to pick up the ball in time before any further damage could be done.
Maxted picked up the victory for Swarthmore by making four saves on 11 opportunities. Heil suffered the loss after turning away three of the 11 shots he faced.
Swarthmore will look to remain undefeated when it hosts Gettysburg on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. during Garnet Weekend.
