AMHERST, Mass. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team (16-2-2) will face unbeaten Amherst from the Lord Jeff's Hitchcock Field on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1:30 in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Sectional Semifinals.
If the Garnet defeats Amherst, it will advance to Sunday's sectional final to face the winner of Williams and Brandeis.The sectional final will be played on Sunday at 1:30 from Hitchcock Field, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Final Four in San Antonio (Nov. 30 and Dec. 1).
Swarthmore is competing in the Sweet 16 round for the third time in five seasons. The Garnet reached the third round thanks to a pair 3-0 victories over Albertbus Magnus and RPI. Swarthmore is led by junior midfielder Jack Momeyer (6 goals, 7 assists) , sophomore forward Michael Stewart (14 goals, 30 points), senior defender John Pontillo (3 goals, 6 points) and junior goalkeeper Peter Maxted (0.46 GAA).
The last time Swarthmore faced Amherst was in the 2008 sectional semifinals, with the Lord Jeffs defeating the Garnet 1-0 from Clothier Field Stadium.
