Katie Tarr '02 was a standout three-sport athlete and captain at Swarthmore who played in every single possible varsity contest all four years save two field hockey contests the beginning of her freshman campaign. Tarr earned Swarthmore’s Eleanor Kay Hess Award her sophomore year and the May E. Parry Award as a senior.

In field hockey, Tarr played defense and helped the Garnet to a 44-28 record over the four-year span. She led the team in defensive saves in each of her final three years including recording a remarkable 13 defensive saves in 2000, the year the field hockey team finished as runners-up in the Centennial Conference. Tarr earned First-Team All-Centennial Conference honors in both 2000 and 2001 and earned Second-Team All-Region honors in 2000. She also was named to the USFHCA All-Academic Team in 2001.

Tarr would transition right into basketball mode each winter following field hockey season and played in 106 career games, helping the Garnet to a record of 70-36 in that time. In 2000-01, the Garnet won the Centennial Conference Championship and won their first ever NCAA Tournament game that year. The squad finished as Centennial runners-up in 2001-02. Tarr recorded 525 career points on the court. On the lacrosse field is where Tarr really excelled, earning All-Conference honors and All-Region Second-Team honors in each of her four seasons. She led the Garnet in scoring each year, tallying at least 63 goals per season and finishing her career with 260 goals, graduating with the most goals in Centennial Conference history. With 64 career assists to go along with her 260 goals, Tarr recorded 324 career points which was also the Centennial high mark. Tarr was also a two-time ECAC All-Star, twice a member of the IWLCA’s All-Academic Team and was invited to play in the North-South Senior game.
