Sandra (Sandy) Gergel joined the Swarthmore Sports Medicine staff in 2019 as a sports medicine intern and was elevated to an assistant athletic trainer in 2021.

In her role at Swarthmore, Sandy utilizes her athletic training skills and knowledge to evaluate and treat various musculoskeletal injuries. She provides care to varsity student-athletes of all sports through rehabilitation programs, modalities, and patient education. 

Before joining the Garnet, Sandy worked at Synergy Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy in Malvern, PA as a physical therapist aide. She has also worked as a camp athletic trainer for the Philadelphia Union Summer Youth Soccer Camps. 

Sandy graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in May of 2018. She was a member of Iota Tau Alpha, a national Athletic Training Honors Fraternity, and Sigma Sigma Sigma, a national sorority. Sandy completed her clinical rotations at several different high schools in her sophomore and junior years, and served her final rotation within the Centennial Conference at Muhlenberg College.
