Chris Irvin joined Swarthmore Athletics as the Business Operations Manager during the 2020-21 academic year, and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director, Finance & Community Engagement in July 2024.
In his role, Chris oversees the business and financial operations of the department, including budget oversight of team operating and fundraising accounts, team travel, and management of the department's purchasing procedures. He also serves as the liaison to other areas on campus, including the controller's/business office, dining services, and the campus fleet department.
Following his elevation to assistant athletic director, Chris is tasked with enhancing the student-athlete experience with a more active, hands-on involvement in community service efforts. Irvin serves as the point-person for department community engagement efforts, including working closely with the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
During his time at Swarthmore, Chris has been very active with professional development and has attended several events, including: Villanova Athletics Leadership Summit, NCAA Inclusion Forum, and the Centennial Conference Inclusion Summit. He has also attended and served as a roundtable facilitator at the Business of Small College Athletics (BOSCA) Regional Workshop and as a College Athletics Business Management Association (CABMA) webinar panelist. Additionally, Chris is currently enrolled as a protege in CABMA's year-long Mentor Me Program.
Prior to coming to Swarthmore, Chris served as the Assistant Director of Finance in Drexel University’s Kline School of Law. Chris has a variety of experience within collegiate athletics as he previously served six years at La Salle University. He began his career in athletics as a Ticket manager for La Salle's athletic operation for two years, before being promoted to Athletic Business Manager. During his four years as the Business Manager at La Salle, Chris oversaw all team operating and fundraising accounts, managed game contracts, and coordinated team travel for the department. Prior to La Salle, he also served as an athletics ticket office representative at the University of Pennsylvania, an athletics business office intern at Villanova University, and an athletic & recreation department intern at Delaware County Community College.
Chris earned a Bachelor’s degree from Widener University in Business Management, with a concentration in Sports Management, and later, he earned his MBA from La Salle University. Since joining the Department, Chris has attended the 2022 NCAA Inclusion Forum as well as the 2022 Villanova Athletics Leadership Summit.
Chris resides in Swarthmore with his wife, Kristi, and their two children, Chris Jr. and Kamille.
