Josh Throckmorton is entering his ninth season with the Garnet in 2021. He is responsible for coaching baserunners and outfielders, assists with pitchers, and serves as the first-base coach for Swarthmore. Since taking over the running game in 2018, the Garnet have finished within the top two in the Centennial Conference in stolen bases every year, successfully stealing on 85% of their attempts from 2018-2020. In 2018, Throckmorton helped lead the team to its first ever Centennial Conference title and appearance in the Division III College World Series. He has also coached four all-conference outfielders during his tenure.
Before arriving at Swarthmore, Throckmorton played at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif., where he served as team captain. In his final year, he helped lead the Tigers to their best record since 1982.
Throckmorton has coached youth baseball locally for Nether Providence's American Legion Program, Langhorne Borough's American Legion Program, and Dave Gallagher Baseball.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Occidental in 2012 and will graduate from the University of Washington's Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership program with a Master of Education in 2022. Originally from Bedford, Mass., he now resides in Philadelphia, Pa., with his wife, Tessa.
