Per NCAA bylaws [14.01.2], a student must be in good academic standing and demonstrate satisfactory progress toward a degree in accordance with Swarthmore College and NCAA standards in order to be eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics. Student-athletes must also be enrolled as full-time students (unless any waivers or exemptions, cleared with the Athletics Compliance officer, apply). Per Swarthmore College policies, a student who is on probation (academic or conduct) is not considered to be "in good academic standing" and, therefore, is prohibited from participating in intercollegiate athletics until they are deemed to be "in good standing" by the College. Additionally, normal progress toward the degree of Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science at Swarthmore is made by eight semesters’ work of four courses or the equivalent each semester, for a total of 32 credits. At Swarthmore, Student-Athletes must be enrolled in at least three (3) credits per semester.
Financial aid application materials are mailed to every admitted Swarthmore student. Continuing students will automatically be sent renewal application materials each winter for the next academic year. As such, the college reviews each student’s financial situation annually. Swarthmore College is an NCAA Division III institution and cannot award financial scholarships based on athletic performance. Any student may elect to apply for a campus job. The
Student Employment Office (SEO) offers an orientation session each August, and continuing students may seek possible employment by visiting the SEO.
